Coalition Attack On Israel (The War of Gog and Magog)

ISRAEL ATTACKED
BY RUSSIAN LEAD COALITION

Sounds like a newspaper headline, doesn’t it? You might say to yourself that nothing like that could actually happen. Really? The United States assembled a coalition to free the Iraqi people from the tyranny of a cruel dictatorship and to bring democracy to that area of the world. Coalition forces have fought in Afghanistan and Libya. Is it so hard to imagine that Russia could be dragged in to a coalition of Islamic states with the goal of wiping Israel off the map and taking possession of her riches? Let’s take a quick look at Israel’s modern history and find out how many times coalition forces have attacked her in the past:

Coalition Forces #1
May 14, 1948: On this date Israel declared herself an independent state. On that very date, the fledgling country was attacked from the north, east and south by forces from the Arab states of Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Israel came out the victor. (Number of countries: 7)

Coalition Forces #2
The Six Day’s War of June 5-10, 1967 was a war between Israel and the armies of the neighboring states of Egypt, Jordan and Syria. The nations of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria also contributed troops and arms to the Arab forces. Surrounded by enemies, Israel launched a pre-emptive attack against Egypt’s air force causing Jordan to attack Israel. When the war was over, Israel was victorious and had gained more land which had formally been occupied by her enemies. (Number of countries: 9)

Coalition Forces #3
The Yom Kippur War of October 6-26, 1973, Israel again found herself surrounded by an enemy coalition led by Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq. Other nations played important roles as well. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan and Pakistan assisted with varying degrees of financial aid, ground forces combat pilots and military equipment. Even Cuba and Uganda sent forces to help defeat the Israelis. Israel won an against-the-odds victory. (Number of countries: 14)

I’m sure I’m not the only one to see a progression here. Each time Israel’s enemies try to destroy her, they assemble a larger and larger military force.  Who will be part of the next coalition force to come against Israel? From biblical prophecy, it seems that the list will include Iran, Sudan, Ethiopia, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey, Armenia, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.

Russia, and its Middle Eastern allies, will be part of a coalition force that will attack Israel simultaneously from all sides. I must note here that Egypt and Iraq are not mentioned in prophesy as being part of this coalition, so it’s assumed that they do not take part in this war.  Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel on March 26, 1979. This peace treaty has set into motion a peace process that has neutralized Egypt as a direct combatant of Israel. This helps give credence to the biblical prophecy of war of Gog and Magog, since biblical prophecy does not include Egypt in the list of nations that will attack Israel.

Iraq was also involved in all three wars with Israel, but, like Egypt, biblical prophecy does not include Iraq among those nations who will form a coalition and attack Israel.

So... biblical prophecy does not include Egypt or Iraq in the war of Gog and Magog, but it does include one new player; a player that’s operated in the background in past wars but who will be forced to come to the forefront at the time of this next war... Russia.

But wait, what’s going to happen to this military coalition that attacks Israel? Good question. The answer is that it will be all but destroyed by God with no intervention from Israel’s allies (if she has any left) or even Israel herself. God will supernaturally take care of the problem Himself, bringing Himself glory among His people. Before this massive military force can cause harm to the Jewish nation, God’s chosen people, God intervenes, causing an earthquake and causing great confusion among the armies of the coalition; a confusion that causes them to begin killing each other...

Ezekiel 38:21 “I will call for a sword against him on all My mountains,” declares the Lord GOD. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother.”

God also destroys this coalition by raining down hailstone, fire and brimstone upon them...

Ezekiel 38:22 “With pestilence and with blood I will enter into judgment with him; and I will rain on him and on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire and brimstone.”

Prophesy also shows us that all but one sixth of the attacking coalition will be destroyed. The number of dead littering Israel will be so massive that it will take Israel seven months to bury all the bodies. Scripture even goes so far as to say that there will be individuals who will be employed to scour the land to find and bury the bodies they find...

Ezekiel 39:12-14a “For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. 13Even all the people of the land will bury them; and it will be to their renown on the day that I glorify Myself,” declares the Lord GOD. 14They will set apart men who will constantly pass through the land, burying those who were passing through, even those left on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it...”

God will also cause the birds and beasts of the field to gorge on the remains of the fallen...

Ezekiel 39:17-20 "As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Speak to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field, “Assemble and come, gather from every side to My sacrifice which I am going to sacrifice for you, as a great sacrifice on the mountains of Israel, that you may eat flesh and drink blood. 18You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, as though they were rams, lambs, goats and bulls, all of them fatlings of Bashan. 19So you will eat fat until you are glutted, and drink blood until you are drunk, from My sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20You will be glutted at My table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all the men of war,” declares the Lord GOD.’”

After seven months, as a way to finally cleanse Israel of the bodies of its defeated enemies, they will make a final search to be sure that they have found all of the bodies and body parts of those who were killed during that short lived war.  Prophesy states that, at that time, anyone who finds a human bone is to set up a “marker” beside it so that the “buriers” can find it and properly dispose of it.

Ezekiel 39:14b-15 “...At the end of seven months they will make a search. 15As those who pass through the land pass through and anyone sees a man’s bone, then he will set up a marker by it until the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.”

The valley of Hamon-gog literally means the “Valley of the multitudes of Gog” and it’s where all the bodies of Israel’s defeated enemies will be buried.

Whether this short-lived war takes place before or after the Rapture isn't important. What is important is that biblical prophecy states it will happen, and history will prove this prophesy to be true.

What possible good can come out of this? God’s people have been protected not by another country, but by the Lord God Almighty Himself, and He will use this event to make Himself known to the inhabitants of the earth...

Ezekiel 38:23 “I will magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the LORD.”

Through God’s supernatural intervention, many people will finally have the proof that God does, indeed, exist. How many of them become born again believers is not known.

There is some speculation on whether this Russian lead military force will attack Israel before, during or after the Rapture. If it’s already happened, then you’ve already lived through it and know more about this part of the timeline than I do. If the Rapture has not occurred before this event, then the War of Gog and Magog may have a trigger event that will cause even Israel's most staunch supporters to turn their backs on her and set this next prophesied war into motion... the destruction of Damascus
